Clik here to view.Eleven of the Senate’s twelve Jewish Dems joined with other Democrats to confirm Chuck Hagel to be Secretary of Defence. One of them, Frank Lautenberg from New Jersey skipped the vote altogether. GestetnerUpdates.Com confirmed on December 29, 2012 that Obama has settled on Hagel.
On Jan 7th, the day Obama officially nominated Hagel, I wrote as follows: “Most Jewish Senators on the list below did not make it yet official. But of the twelve Jewish Senators, expect almost – if not literally – all of them to vote for Hagel. For each of them who will vote against Hagel, I am God-willing contributing $100 to the NJDC.”
On the same day, I had this:
Jeff Goldberg writes in The Atlantic that ”information may come out in confirmation hearings that makes it impossible for AIPAC to sideline itself, but my guess at this moment is that the AIPAC will not mount a significant campaign on the Hill.”
But as far I am concerned, AIPAC won’t have any campaign against Hagel, except if something really crazy comes up during confirmation that is not known at this time. I strongly doubt that Anti-Hagel votes from the Dems will be anywhere close to a Minyan (“up to ten”) as Chuck Todd suggested today. Perhaps a nice few Dems may abstain from voting, but few-to-non of them will vote against. Three? Four? Five will vote against? Ok, maybe. But Ten? Sell me a bridge instead. The Senate Dems will not permit this nomination to blow up in Obama’s face.”
Four Republicans voted today to back Hagel. That includes Thad Cochran (Miss.), Richard Shelby (Ala.), Mike Johanns (Neb.) and Rand Paul (Ky.).
